CPMS Class of 2020
What has been your most interesting experience since arriving at DMU?
I have had a lot of cool and interesting experiences since coming to DMU. School related I would say I have really liked learning how to do ankle taping, and I loved being a part of the “Foot in the Door” event where I was able to teach high school students ankle taping. Non-school related I would say it was awesome to watch my 2nd daughter, Riley, be born in September. Then, of course learning to balance family, school, church, and other responsibilities has been a fun challenge that I would definitely categorize as “interesting”.
What is your favorite meal?
I just straight up love all kinds of food! A few of my favorite meals are chicken parmesan with alfredo, and any type of nacho’s.
What was your proudest moment you had in undergrad?
I was able to be a cadaver lab TA for the anatomy program at BYU for a few years. One of the most rewarding things for me was that my students would regularly score above the overall class average. It really made me feel that I was doing a good job, and I loved seeing them be successful.
What is your favorite indoor and/or outdoor activity?
I love to play any type of sports, especially football, volleyball, and basketball. Any time I can do that I will try to take it. I also love going to the zoo and park with my family because the excitement and happiness on my 2-year old daughter’s face is priceless when we do those things she loves to do.
As far as indoor activities go, any opportunity I can take to beat our SGA President-Elect in Foosball, I will take it.
If you could choose any mentor (living or deceased) who would it be and why?
President Thomas S. Monson. He is the current Prophet for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) of which I am a part. He is a man who has dedicated his life to the service of other people whether they are members of the LDS church or not. I am really impressed by his desire to give of himself and his constantly happy attitude. That is something I would want to model as well.
I also think it would be really cool to get to know Ellen DeGeneres. Similarly, she is impressive with her ability to help all sorts of people, and maintain a very fun and exciting personality. I think she just does a ton of good for the world.
Share one small change you made in your life that had a big impact.
Getting married. Haha! Just kidding, that was a huge change. I would say scheduling every day. It sounds excessive to some, but I have found that if I take 5 minutes at the end of every day to plan out what I will do the next day and what my goals are, then I am far more productive and feel way more accomplished. I also get to spend more time with my family and friends when I do this because my study time is more effective.
What is your favorite vacation destination and why?
Puerto Rico. Kara (my wife) completely surprised me with a trip to Puerto Rico for our 2 year anniversary. And when I say surprised, I mean that we were landing in New York before boarding our plane to go to PR before I knew where we were going!!! It was an impressive secret she kept from me. We spent a week on the beach, zip lining, paddle boarding, golfing, kayaking, and exploring. It was so much fun and I would go again in a heartbeat. . . or in 7 years when I can actually afford it. . .
What would you title/name your autobiography?
Finish this sentence, “People would be surprised to learn that I…..”
Have been a male clothing model for BYU (my undergrad program) on 3 separate occasions. I was just never able to master the “Masseter Jaw Clench” like the elite models do, so I chose a different career path: Podiatry. Haha!
